Tantanmen ❤ Baikohken @ Ngee Ann City

Hello ~ 

Life's been really busy lately with hectic ,packed schedule and exams after exams .. ( Lifestyle for healthcare workers ^^"" hahaha ) but I'm trying my best !! Havent really gotten the chance to eat many varieties of ramen recently thus - I've been nomming Sanpoutei because its both close to my house and because its delish! A while back though I've had the chance to drop by Orchard , so Ee-chan and I decided to try Baikohken  ! 

Baikohken has a branch at Ngee Ann City Basement :)

We decided to order their Tantanmen for that day ;D 

craving for some Szechuan "ma-la" on that day ;3

And woo..

When it arrived, 
it looks like it was going to be one spicy ride ^^" 
I love chilli , but 
I started doubting myself...

(I mean , look at that soup !! ) 
Soup
The soup was quite hearty and thick. Pretty spicy although  I didnt get as much "ma" (the numbing sensation you get on your tongue when eating szechuan pepper) , not sure if its the intended flavor :3 Love the heartiness !

Noodle 
The noodle is thick and springy ;3 texture is pretty nice !

The chashu came in a separate dish with beansprouts , bamboo shoots and eggs !!

Chashu

Chashu has some parts that are soft and some that are tougher. If I'd want to compare some other ramen stores surely had better chashu compared to this although the slices a Baikohken is pretty huge (2 big slices). That being said , Sanpoutei is pretty generous with their chashu too and the chashu are generally juicier. 

Eggs

Felt that the eggs are slightly overcooked :( Half the yolk are quite hard with only one part of the centre remaining sligtly gooey after being prodded :( Would want more manirate on it too if possible :'( or maybe its just my own preferences 

Bamboo shoot 

The bamboo shoot is pretty tasty and decent :) 

Now gyoza :3 
we got a plate f gyoza (with 4 pieces , Ee-chan ate one before I can get a picture hahaha ) We both feel that the gyoza is [retty nice but the skin was a tad tough and chewy :x Nevertheless tne filling was juicy and well seasoned ;D The outer skin was crispy too ;D

So overall will I go to Baikohken again ? 
Well , maybe yes if I pass by the area :3 Will I purposely make a trip down to orchard from my house in the edge of Singapore to eat this though ? Maybe not unless I'm pretty free that week ^^ Overall I feel that Baikohken's ramen are delish although maybe a tad overpriced for what I can get elsewhere (maybe its the rental fee at orchard too :// ) If I come back , it will probably be for the soup and noodle rather than the topping itself as different ramen store do have different noodlesto expect ;3 

So thats my experience at Baikohken :3

Ajisen Ramen Review

Hello~ sorry for the absence ^^ hahaha .. 

I've been busy using the most of my short holiday recently and got lazy TAT;; anyway .. 

for fellow ramen lovers , there is this one widespread ramen store which you must have tried ...

Ajisen 

"Ajisen Ramen was found at Kumamoto, Japan in 1968. Currently Ajisen Ramen already have 400 plus chain in worldwide. Ajisen Ramen targeted to open 1000 and above food chain worldwide. I had tried it once some time back, and it wasnt exactly great for the price. However, seeing that it has been featured on some posts as one of the top 10 ramen in Singapore, 

I've decided to review it again :3

SO, I ordered

Cha Shu Ramen

Now, as for the taste test, 

The Soup

The soup .....
is sadly nothing to rave about... :'( 
it lacks the savory taste and richness that a good ramen soup usually offer. 
The soup is pretty thin with a taste that is pretty shallow if you're used to what other ramen shops (eg: Keisuke, Santouka, Sanji, etc) have to offer :''(((

The Noodle 

Its pretty decent , although seem a tad too soft/overcooked. Its of the consistency of hakata ramen but softer :3 However, having said that, the noodle is really nothing I'm particularly happy about either. 

The cha shu meat

The cha shu is actually pretty decent :3 !!! 

A little bit fatty although a bit on the tough side 

The toppings 

I find the combination of cabbage in this dish a tad weird :/ either that or it just doesnt agree with my palate. The ramen egg isnt a ramen egg either :/ its a fully boiled egg which is a tad overcooked at the whites especially :// 

Since I'm ordering a set menu, included are : 

Gyoza

which is good :3 

if I have anything to say at all, it just taste more like Chinese-styled gyoza than the usual Japanese fare 

and a glass of green tea 

nothing to complain about the drink :P

So this is my experience at Ajisen :3

Overall 

Convenient locations, but lacking in taste despite the pricings :((

Service 

Service is prompt although the waiters and waitresses are somehow not exactly friendly if you want to compare them with those at other ramen shops ^^"

Kagetsu Arashi Ramen @ Star Vista Review

I went to try a new Ramen shop at Star Vista a while ago after cosfest :3 

Kagetsu Arashi !

What's special about their store is their 

Special Condiments ~ !!!

I will show you how they look like later ! :D

Meanwhile, here's a sample of their menu set :)

I had their Arashi Ginkotsu Ramen set :3 which comes with Gyoza 

Ee-chan ordered their Teppan Itameshi and a topping of Ramen egg  !!

do note that the egg in the ramen itself is not a ramen egg :( 

its a full boiled egg  ! :'(

Luckily, Ee-chan suspected this and had ordered the extra Ramen egg :

Tralala !!

The Ramen egg came whole , but Ee-chan CUT IT IN HALF before I can take a picture of it ! TAT so here's the badly cut half

Now, as for the Ramen itself !!

The Noodle

 smooth, firm and with the right chewiness :3 Loves !!

The Menma and Nori is the ole good stuff, as usual  :3

tasty , although nothing new or out of the ordinary ^^

The Cha Shu 

I have not much qualms about the Cha Shu ,

its not as savory and umami as I would prefer it to be , and its a little bit on the tough side 

:( but then again, I always prefer juicy, savory cha shu, and so far nothing can beat Tonkotsu Four Season's Summer set's Cha Shu and Marutama's side order Cha Shu(not the ramen cha shu, but side order one) 

Now, lets move on to the promised Condiments !!

Kagetsu's special in house seasoned chives !! 

Its pretty savory and spicy !! 

If you love something like belachan or any strong, spicy condiments, this is guaranteed to be a very pleasant topping for you ^^ I personally quite like it because I love spicy food~

The special soy sauce and pepper ^^ 

Ee-chan claimed that the soy sauce is unique and tasty ^^ he loves it !

 I feel like its a little bit on the soft side :/ 

so here you have it ^^

Pepper is fragrant but taste-wise is unremarkable 

 

Plus Yukari , something the Japanese usually use to flavor Ume (plum) 

Ee-chan loves the taste , but I personally dont like Ume, and the flavor really reminded me of ume (kinda tangy) so I ditched this after my first try TAT;;;

Ee-chan's Teppan Itameshi

tastes like normal fried rice to me :( Ee-chan was expecting the eggs to be a little bit undercooked but it came out overcooked :( I'm not really into this as I feel that its a little bit overpriced for its taste .. but Ee-chan is on the fence about his :/

Our Gyoza

the Gyoza is surprisingly pleasant ^^ crunchy on the outside, with just enough soft skin wrapping the juicy meat. The garlic is just nice, not too overpowering ^^ so its kindof an unexpected saving grace :)

Overall :) 

The Ramen is all right , not the best in town and I dont think it can beat Keisuke Four Season's or Tampopo's ,  but it is  a decent one compared to some generic  chains like Ajisen ^^ I love the noodle's texture, the seasoned chives, the gyoza and the ramen egg though :3 so they kinda saves the experience ^^ The Teppan Itameshi can be improved I think ( I personally think its not worth it :/ ) . Ambience is good (its not too noisy) :3

Service

the staff are really really really super polite and friendly !! =[]= there's even this staff who keeps on apologizing to us for having us move seat and helped us with our luggage (as Ee-chan and I came straight from Cosfest ) . Orders arrived fast and ....

They provide baskets beside each tables for customers to store their belongings on !! 

I see many lady customers putting their hand bags in xD but I have no hand bag with me x'D so here;s my small wallet hahaha!!
