Tantanmen ❤ Baikohken @ Ngee Ann City

Hello ~ 

Life's been really busy lately with hectic ,packed schedule and exams after exams .. ( Lifestyle for healthcare workers ^^"" hahaha ) but I'm trying my best !! Havent really gotten the chance to eat many varieties of ramen recently thus - I've been nomming Sanpoutei because its both close to my house and because its delish! A while back though I've had the chance to drop by Orchard , so Ee-chan and I decided to try Baikohken  !

We decided to order their Tantanmen for that day ;D 

craving for some Szechuan "ma-la" on that day ;3

And woo..

When it arrived, 
it looks like it was going to be one spicy ride ^^" 
I love chilli , but 
I started doubting myself...

(I mean , look at that soup !! ) 
Soup
The soup was quite hearty and thick. Pretty spicy although  I didnt get as much "ma" (the numbing sensation you get on your tongue when eating szechuan pepper) , not sure if its the intended flavor :3 Love the heartiness !

Noodle 
The noodle is thick and springy ;3 texture is pretty nice !

The chashu came in a separate dish with beansprouts , bamboo shoots and eggs !!

Chashu

Chashu has some parts that are soft and some that are tougher. If I'd want to compare some other ramen stores surely had better chashu compared to this although the slices a Baikohken is pretty huge (2 big slices). That being said , Sanpoutei is pretty generous with their chashu too and the chashu are generally juicier. 

Eggs

Felt that the eggs are slightly overcooked :( Half the yolk are quite hard with only one part of the centre remaining sligtly gooey after being prodded :( Would want more manirate on it too if possible :'( or maybe its just my own preferences 

Bamboo shoot 

The bamboo shoot is pretty tasty and decent :) 

Now gyoza :3 
we got a plate f gyoza (with 4 pieces , Ee-chan ate one before I can get a picture hahaha ) We both feel that the gyoza is [retty nice but the skin was a tad tough and chewy :x Nevertheless tne filling was juicy and well seasoned ;D The outer skin was crispy too ;D

So overall will I go to Baikohken again ? 
Well , maybe yes if I pass by the area :3 Will I purposely make a trip down to orchard from my house in the edge of Singapore to eat this though ? Maybe not unless I'm pretty free that week ^^ Overall I feel that Baikohken's ramen are delish although maybe a tad overpriced for what I can get elsewhere (maybe its the rental fee at orchard too :// ) If I come back , it will probably be for the soup and noodle rather than the topping itself as different ramen store do have different noodlesto expect ;3 

So thats my experience at Baikohken :3

Lunch ❤ Saveur @ Bugis

Hi Hi ~ 

Just a short diary entry ❤ A while ago I went to eat at Ma Maison after Ee-chan set the wrong appointment day for Saveur . But eventually we had  the chance to go eat at Saveur :3 Today's post is going to be about that :3 

For that day's coordinates I was looking to wear something more pastel-y so I wore this pastel corsage "scrunchie" out. 

Have gotten myself some flower accessories recently but hadnt have the time to wear these out so I've decided to wear them out that day ^^

with a DIY-ed messy lace choker hahaha 

but much cheaper than buying a ready made one ^^"

Also wore out a mori-ish pink striped lace top that I got recently with a white inner lace dress :3 Lenses are iFairy Pon Pon Gray ;D You can read my review about it *here*

Saveur is located at Bugis and when we reached, Ee-chan and I ordered 4 dishes (one of which I forgot to take T_T ) but basically these are the rest . 

Pork Belly

Onsen tamago and some lentils ? Hahaha Im no pro in this kinda food :3 Love the belly and the onsen tamago. (made me want some tsuyu tho hahaha ) and the lentils goes quite well with the rest ( Im surprised ) OAO

Ee-chan also ordered duck confit 

Duck Confit 

This is like, the kind of food I will see Heston and Gordon make but never really understand what it means. So after googling confit is like kinda (to make it very simplified) Sous Vide in oil ? Sounds oily but the duck is REALLY TASTY ! xD Love how the duck is so smooth and the skin is soo crispy xD 

Potato Gratin 

in Ee-chan's words : if there were 2 portion I'd have eaten them all. I'm not a fan of potato (except for Poulet's mashed potato - that is an exception ^^ ) so I cant say much about the gratin. It taste nice to me but not sth superbly nice :3 #teamduckconfit

Was quite full after that cause we already ate at home and Ee-chan want some dessert too we headed off for desert straight after that . Affordable french cuisine? Yup! Affordable. Food is nice too and its a breeze of fresh air in terms of the type of food I eat everyday (which is like,home cooked Japanese style food hahaha ) unless you eat french food every day of course ^^" 

Will I return ? 

Yup :) food is nice and I'd love to try the other food in the menu I havnt tried yet :3 one qualm that I do have is how NOISY the place is T__T its like a packed but clean hawker centre somehow I really wish people who eat there are quieter (not the resto's fault )  Maybe the next time I visit, I'll go during quieter hours ;D

Late Night dinner at ❤ Ma Maison ❤

What did you guys do after CNY holidays are over? 

Last week, as a once in a while treat , Ee-chan and I decided to eat out instead of cooking at home (as we usually do) :3 Initially we wanted to try Saveur since Ee-chan was dying to try the so called 'affordable french cuisine' - sadly we have to give that up once we reach the location because Ee-chan made the reservation on the wrong day =___= and the place happened to be closed T__T 

Fortunately, we ended up elsewhere awesome and nearby

My Alternative

❤ Ma Maison ❤

Ma Maison is a Japanese-Westen fusion restaurant which serves menu ranging from the traditional tonkatsu to foie gras xD The first thing that struck me on arrival is how ... Dark the interior was O.O it was really dim, almost like bars. I have to use night mode on my camera to get it looking as bright as pictured below OxO

However, once I sat down and my eyes have adjusted to the dim lighting, the interior decor becomes visible and it is freaking pretty!!!! XD 

Even the menu is pretty ❤

After some deliberation, I ordered omu rice with beef stroganoff and Ee chan ordered hamburg steak with foie gras :3 I saw camembert cheese fritters and since both of ua are curious about it, we ordered that too 

Ordered Sangria for a drink ;) 

Which Ee chan finished when I was looking away because i commented i didnt usually take alcoholic drinks and he assumed I didnt want it (*cries*) =_="" didnt really have a chance to properly try T_T;;;

The first thing to arrive is the camembert cheese fritters !! 

I mean, look at these puffs of crispy goodness !! 

.....with warm gooey cheese inside ~

And the DIP ! The DIP is really nice too !!! I think its honey and some light vinegar (dont quote me on these hahaha , Im no expert ) but the crispy outer layer, the warm cheese and the sweet-tangy dip just makes the most perfect combination ever !! 

Before long, my omu rice with beef stroganoff arrived :3 I've eaten many many omu rice in many different places before and this one - this one is absolutely tasty !! xD Just simply delish !!

The omelette was soft, creamy and slightly thready in a nice way to give it some bite while being soft and velvety !! The butter rice was fragrant and good enough to eat on its own xD and the beef was tender with a flavour-packed gravy QmQ!! This is one of the few times I actually will be torn if Im asked to choose between a good ramen and something else T_T

Ee-chan's main course is hamburg steak with foie gras (I think ^^ hehe, I kinda forgot the exact name) He ordered these because we're curious about how foie gras tastes like ( poor students be poor after all hahaha we dont really go out to eat atas food often heheee) So this came !!

And our first foie gras is..... Okay.. ^^ 

Its tasty , crispy on the outside and immediately melts in your mouth once you chomp on it but somehow Im not convinced why it can be so expensive outside O.O The hamburg steak on the other hand is very moist, tender and satisfing :) The sides are fresh and the crispy potatoes (ee-chan and I argued if its lightly baked or fried:P ) is fluffy and soft inside and crispy on the outside :3  

SO

Overall, the food is AWESOME, the ambience is nice , the decor is so pretty and the staff service is great!!!! ( when the staff delivered the food to our table , they put it down nicely and turn the plate facing us so its easier for us to eat and they checked on our water VERY regularly to make sure we always have something to drink - not to mention they're very polite too )

In brief,

PS : 

Returned a second time during lunch hour and somehow the food quality is not as good as the night one :((( Idk if this is me being biased or what but Ee-chan and I do note that the night staff on the first day we ate there were Japanese while the lunch hour staff were not . ( A friend of mine who worked there before read this post and told me that sometimes the Japanese boss will cook - so maybe I'm lucky the first time around ? )

Ordered Escargot and Stroganoff Omu Rice (again xD ) the second time around 

verdict ?

Stroganoff Omu Rice - the first day was better - the Omelette and beef wasnt that nice this time around :( 

Escargot  - decent- not exceptional :/ 

Service is still good though :3 

Will I return again after this not-so-memorable second trip ? 

Yes because I got some vouchers T__T. 

If the third trip turn out to be the same as my second trip, I'll pass :(( Pretty disappointed at my second visit. Hopefully they can produce consistent results in their food - the service is excellent but well, I cant eat service :// ( I'm a glutton HAHAHA xD ) - lets just say service complements food and not the other way around ;D
